Youth On The Move

Mission:

Our mission is to promote the development of young people by providing an array of opportunities, supports and services that engages youth in their own development. In addition, FOUS seeks to strengthen youth worker practice and help youth service providers build program capacity in order to provide effective programs and services to youth in high-risk situations.

Vision:

  1. Youth develop into healthy, responsible and caring human beings.

  2. Youth emerge as partners and leaders in the community on the issues that affect

                   them.

             3. Quality youth programming in youth service organizations

Philosophy:

Youth are very resourceful, bright and creative individuals. We believe youth should have a voice in the community, the government and in the organizations where they are served. This is achieved through several key core strategies:

Positive Youth Development - an approach to working with youth that defines (outcomes) based on capacities, strength and development needs of youth.

The Development Asset Approach – this approach is a framework that focuses on external structures, relationships, and activities that create a positive environment for young people.

Youth Participation – this approach is very important to the success of any youth program. It will allow youth to be involved in decision making and planning of activities. It gives them a sense of ownership.

FOUS Youth Development Services is a 501 (c) (3) not-for-profit organization that has provided quality youth programming in the city of Chicago and surrounding suburbs since October 2003.
